Mid West - (Kentucky,Iowa,Illinois,Indiana,Ohio & Wisoconsin)
This is one hell of a trip(in both senses) as there were lot of trvelling and lot of new places to see..This was during the ThanksGiving Weekend - 2005 and we set about driving our way through the entire Mid-West. We started our trip on Wednesday Nov 23. We drove till Cedar Falls, IOWA and stayed in the AmericINN. That is probably one of the best hotels I stayed in ..and had a big spread of continental breakfast. Saw for the first time people making Waffles.
Next day we drove, drove & drove towards Kentucky...it was a long and hard drive and we went and stayed at LouisVille planning to do our thanksgiving shopping there. But all our calculation went wrong as we have moved to a different time zone on the way and we were late for the shopping.
Then the drive took us towards Kentucky where I got my first and till 2009 my only Speeding ticket. I saw quite a few cop cars and was going near the speed limit once I passed them I figured that seeing so many Cop cars already there will not be any more after that...I was proved wrong and stopped my a cop who seemed really experienced...though he gave a ticket he was pretty warm to us and gave some advise on places to visit and advised us to slow down.
Then we visited some of the large underground caves and few other attractions. I could not recollect lot of this as this blog was written after a long time after the trip. Hope I have more info in the next blogs....

New England - (Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Maine)
This was one of me very few trips where I had to do a lot of driving :-( Infact had to drive as much as 1400 miles in the three days as we moved from Boston, MA to other states like Maine & North Hampshire. Never knew that all these states were together called New Englan States..
It was the labor day weekend of 2005 and got a pricey ticket to Boston and had a good time travelling in the metros to Quicey where my friend was staying..Lot of different persons..always love the public transposrt..Back in India and also here..Walked through the silent streets of Boston to my friend's(Siva) apartment. Siva is one of the persons who can talk with anyone he wants..at one point of time he had the entire floor in Tidel his friends..
Had a tough time getting car in Hertz and had to travel to another hertz with the girl over there.. she was cute..so did not mind the trouble..she had plans of going to Rhode Island for a wedding..Got a Chevy Cavaliar..a small car for 4 people.. Siva's roommate Subhankar joined us at the last minute. Siva's one more friend Balaji also travelled from his place to Boston and we were ready to hit the road.
We first went to Mt Washington the highest peak in the North Eastern United States. We had to drive to it's 6288 foot summit over a 8 mile long Mt Washington Cariage Road overlooking the presidential range of the white mountains of New hampshire. It was a scary ride and we had to move in the first gear through the whole ride. There were winds as fast as 60 miles/hour...Riding back was more scary and got a certificate for climbing it. Went and stayed at a Extended Stay and Siva made a delicious sambar and some boiled eggs. One of the better meals in the trip.
Next day it was a long ride to Maine and went to Acadia national park there. Nothing much to do but there were some scenic drives and there was a wonderful restuarant which had a good spread of sea foods. For the first time ate some Lobsters(heard the Maine is the biggest producer of lobsters in US). Made it back to extended stay and some more food cooked by Siva.
Third day we have planned the Rafting and we moved to Kennebec River and went for a level 5 Rafting(level 6 is the thrillest) .. There was a Indian Couple their son and their relative in the same boat. Only one word to describe it..Thrilling....Went back to Boston. Night roamed around the downtown and saw a big rat in the road (My first rat in US).
Moved around Boston on the next day to MIT and to a nice Gujarathi Restuarant.
Tips: Dont miss the Lobsters and Plan and Book early for Rafting.
